Cannabidiol, or CBD, is typically derived from the hemp plant and is useful for a broad range of conditions. Although many confuse hemp with marijuana, it is related but not quite the same. Marijuana naturally contains higher amounts of THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol (the compound that causes the psychoactive effect, or 'high'). Hemp contains a significantly higher concentration of CBD, with little to no THC, thus there is no 'high.'


An important distinction to make is the difference between whole-plant hemp extracts and CBD isolates, as both can be beneficial depending on the issue being treated. CBD isolate is how it sounds; usually just pure cannabidiol with no other active ingredients. A whole-plant hemp extract typically contains CBD as well as other aerial parts of the plant which provide helpful compounds like CBG, CBV, CBN, terpenes and more.
